Harriet Miers, White House Counsel, resigns.

Harriet Miers, the White House Counsel who President Bush (mis)nominated for the Supreme Court, has tenderd her resignation "after put[ting] 12 years of service into 6", according to White House spokesman Tony Snow. Meanwhile on another matter, we learn that President Bush quietly issued a "signing statement" -- a tactic Bush uses to assert his right to ignore the very law he is signing -- in which he asserts his right to open our mail without a warrant.
