"Peabody bill" signed into law.
Gov. Fletcher has signed the so-called "Peabody bill" into law.
Here's the press release from his office:
"I believe coal’s full potential has never been realized. Through history, all we’ve one with coal is burn it. Now we know coal can be converted into alternative fuels, including liquid fuels and synthetic natural gas.
"I called the legislature into special session because I knew we needed to enact the legislation necessary to ensure that Kentucky is properly positioned in the battle for freedom from dependency on foreign oil.
"I want to commend all those members of the General Assembly who voted to make Kentucky a leader in energy production. House Bill 1 will give energy companies an incentive to build plants in Kentucky that will convert coal, corn and other products into clean-burning fuels."
