Sudan Is One Of Many
With all of this talk of the suffering in Sudan, one needs to remember that there are many many places in the world in which large numbers and/or races of people suffer. Americans are incredibly lucky to not suffer the way those people do.
Burma (now Myanmar) is one of those places.
I wonder what the lefties would do if Bush sent a bunch of troops to Darfur to straighten things out. Don't you think that this is a situation where you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't? Many in the left want only what they are not getting. If Iraq had been neglected for decades and not challenged with military action and/or sanctions, and Bush had went to Darfur to set some things straight in much the same manner he did Iraq, the lefties would be rallying for action in the Arab world to ward off human rights abuses and claiming that Bush is ignorant for trying to plant freedom in that African nation.
Many of them are simply ignorant malcontents.
Sylvester Stallone recently viewed some consequences of forty years of violent military dictatorship while filming a movie on the border of Thailand and Burma. He said, "I witnessed the aftermath - survivors with legs cut off and all kinds of land-mine injuries, maggot-infested wounds and ears cut off. We hear about Vietnam and Cambodia and this was more horrific."
