BUNNING NEEDS TO GET STARTED
Everbody had a good laugh over Bret Hall's "scoop" on our junior Senator's retirement. The response was classic Jim Dandy hardball, right behind the ear. If he ever had thought of stepping aside, he sure wasn't going to do it after seeing that piece.
But all political feuding aside, let's face up to reality-If Jim Bunning is going to run again, he needs to get started, now. His campaign in 2004 was a dud, and he squeaked by leaving a lot of voters wondering.
We know his next opponent is going to be Ben Chandler, so why wait? Start making speeches around the state showing just how different he and Chandler are- taxes, illegal immigrants, choice in education and health care, there are lots of excellent issues Bunning could use to draw favorable distinctions.
I have long said Bunning has the most interesting and wide ranging intellect among well known Republican leaders in Kentucky. He ought to be out around the state talking to voters every week for the next 2 1/2 years.
The more regular Kentuckians see of Jim Bunning the more they are reminded why they voted for him in the first place. We should all look forward to seeing Jim back in campaign mode, the sooner the better.

Frank: I really think it's going to be Dr. Dan Mongiardo, the Lt. Governor and NOT Rep. Ben Chandler!
