Guthrie for Congress Gears Up for General Election

Has raised over $600k, hires top-tier strategy team

(Bowling Green, KY) Brett Guthrie's congressional campaign has raised more than $600-thousand and hired two top strategists to handle media and polling.

Though no report is required by the Federal Election Commission until July 15, Guthrie for Congress fundraising has continued at a solid pace, even during the heat of the Democrat primary that left David Boswell with no money in the bank.

"We are thrilled to have such an enormous fundraising advantage over our opponent, and we will keep up the pressure for the rest of the year. Brett's campaign has remained laser focused on raising funds, organizing, and building the team necessary for victory this November," said campaign manager Brian D. Smith.

Boswell hasn't announced his post-primary financial situation, but told an Owensboro radio station on primary election night that he had spent all of the $200-thousand he raised. Not only has Guthrie outraised Boswell three-to-one (if he indeed raised $200-thousand before May 20), he now has an enormous cash-on-hand advantage following the bruising primary.

Additionally, Guthrie for Congress has hired two veteran Republican strategists to handle media and polling for his campaign:

* Brad Todd, a founder of OnMessage, Inc., will handle television and radio advertising. Todd has produced media for a number of high-profile campaigns including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, several U.S. Senators and Congressmen, and former Maryland U.S. Senate candidate Michael Steele. Todd has made ads for the National Republican Congressional Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee across the country and produced advertising for the Bush-Cheney.

* Jan van Lohuizen, the President of Voter/Consumer Research, will handle the campaign's polling. van Lohuizen served as Congressman Ron Lewis's pollster since 1994 in Kentucky's Second District and has been Senator Mitch McConnell's pollster since 1984. No pollster knows Kentucky and specifically the Second District better than van Lohuizen, who also consults for Texas Senator John Cornyn, the Republican National Committee, and previously for President George W. Bush.
