FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Commerce Cabinet will change its name to the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet as part of a reorganization, Gov. Steve Beshear announced today.
The name change takes effect June 16, 2008, and will more accurately reflect the mission and agencies within the cabinet, Secretary Marcheta Sparrow said.
As part of the reorganization, the name of the Department of Tourism will be changed to the Department of Travel. Other changes include changing names of divisions and branches within the new Department of Travel; reducing the number of regional divisions within the Department of Parks from three to two and moving the Kentucky Sports Authority to the Secretary’s Office.
There will be some moving of positions as a result of this reorganization, but no loss of positions or pay.
Besides Parks and Travel, the Cabinet also includes the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, the Frankfort Convention Complex, the Governor’s School for the Arts, the Kentucky Artisans Center at Berea, the Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, the Kentucky Heritage Council, the Kentucky Historical Society, the Kentucky Horse Park, the Kentucky State Fair Board, the Office of Creative Services, the Kentucky Humanities Council, and the Kentucky Sports Authority.
