Sen. McCain offers $300 million Prize For New Auto Battery That Can Reduce Dependence On Oil. GREAT, But How Do We Pay For It?

Here is an excerpt:

Republican McCain, meanwhile, plans to announce a proposed $300 million government prize for anyone who can develop a next-generation car battery that would deliver power at 30 percent of current costs and have "the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars."

The prize would equate to $1 for American, "a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency," McCain plans to say in a speech at Fresno State University in California, usually a reliably Democratic state.

Editor's comment: While this idea of John McCain's is a good one, I wonder how he'll pay for it.

I personally am sick to death of hearing about all of this electric car garbage. Can you just imagine trying to go cross country with an electric car and having to stop every so often for a several hour battery charge.

If you want a real change then Detroit needs to give us a car that will be filled with water and then the hydrogen and oxygen seperated with the hydrogen being stored and used for fuel.

Now that is a vehicle that will sell and WILL MAKE US ENERGY INDEPENDENT. All of this other garbage is just that, garbage!

Anon., you stated: "If you want a real change then Detroit needs to give us a car that will be filled with water and then the hydrogen and oxygen seperated (sic) with the hydrogen being stored and used for fuel."

Let me tell you that I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE with you.

Now we have to FORCE ALL the politicians that depend on monied interests to do what's RIGHT for a change and support what you suggest!

Seems like a sad attempt at bribery, to me.

They should develop a car that runs on manure. There's plenty of that to shovel up there in Washington!
