Kentucky State Representative, Jimmy Higdon, Is Up To Some Good -- And A Bad.
Kentucky state Representative, Jimmy Higdon, has sponsored some very good legislation -- and one that's a rottenly smelly one.
First, this is a good bill (the bad of the bill is highlighted in red):
House Bill 17 (Allow unaffiliated voters to vote in party primaries) Introduced by Rep. Jimmy Higdon on January 6, 2009, to allow voters who are unaffiliated with either the Republican or Democratic parties to choose to vote on the primary election ballot of one party or the other. The bill also prohibits candidates who are unaffiliated with either the Republican or Democratic party from running in primary elections.
Another good bill is this one:
House Bill 18 (Prohibit automated political phone calls) Introduced by Rep. Jimmy Higdon on January 6, 2009, to prohibit use of automated calling equipment or recorded political telephone messages from or by a political party or campaign. The bill allows a civil penalty for violation of $5000 or more and allows anyone who receives such a call to sue for actual damages or $1000, whichever is greater.
House Bill 19 (Increase size of minimum small claims cases to $3000) Introduced by Rep. Jimmy Higdon on January 6, 2009, to increase the jurisdictional limit of the small claims division of the District Court from $1,500 to $3,000 for both claims and counterclaims.
Editor's comment: So ya'll call up Rep. Higdon, thank him for these bills, but URGE him to deletes the STUPID (and probably unconstitutional) provision he has UNWISELY inserted into his proposed HB 17 before we cause the ruckus that will have it stripped for him by others.
