Republican Party Of Kentucky (RPK) Calls For Investigation Of State Senator Joey Pendleton.

RPK Chairman Calls on Attorney General to Investigate Joey Pendleton

FRANKFORT – Today, Republican Party of Kentucky (RPK) Chairman Steve Robertson sent a letter to Attorney General Jack Conway asking him to appoint an unbiased, independent prosecutor to investigate State Senator Joey Pendleton for apparently cheating Murray State University out of tens of thousands of dollars. Robertson's letter accuses Pendleton of violating the terms of his employment with MSU for accepting salary from the University on days when he was actually in Frankfort on legislative duty.

"While students are struggling to pay tuition increases, it appears Joey Pendleton fraudulently accepted double pay from MSU and the Commonwealth," Robertson said. "It is flat disgusting that a state senator who should be looking for ways to push more funding to higher education would actually cheat a great university out of thousands of dollars."

Employment documents obtained through an open records request show that MSU expressly stated that Pendleton was "Not to be paid if attending legislative duties." But these MSU documents and state personnel records reveal that from April 12, 2006 through June 30, 2008, Pendleton accepted pay from MSU and the Commonwealth on 244 days. By accepting pay from MSU while he was actually in Frankfort on legislative duty, Pendleton appears to have cheated MSU out of $69,784.00.

"I now call on Joey Pendleton to reimburse this money to Murray State University and I hope Attorney General Conway will put aside partisan politics and appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate this matter immediately. The taxpayers deserve accountability," concluded Robertson.
