In Kentucky, Legislative Leaders Announce 30 Cent Cigarette Tax Hike, And 6% Sales Tax On Alcohol.

Deal calls for 30-cent cig tax hike, sales tax on alcohol

The “parameters” of a deal among House and Senate leaders would call for increasing the tax on cigarettes by 30 cents and adding a 6 percent sales tax on alcohol.

Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville, emerged from day-long negotiations with House and Senate leaders and said they have generally agreed on a plan to raise as much as $180 million to help plug an estimated $456.1 million shortfall in the state budget.

Williams said he preferred adding the 6 percent sales tax on alcohol to an alternative plan to raise the wholesale tax on beer and liquor from 11 percent to 20 percent. Currently, alcohol doesn’t have a retail sales tax.

Rep. Rick Rand, D-Bedford and the House budget chairman, confirmed that negotiators had settled on 30 cents as the increase in the per-pack cigarette tax. That would put the rate at 60 cents per pack.

Stay tuned for more, though I remark that this is a good start, until we revisit the tax issue again to get closer to the 70 cents mark for cigarettes.

You want to stick it to Big Tobacco? Are you tired of the hypocrisy? How about using excuses about prohibiting teens from buying so they can raise taxes. We all see through it....

There's a new way to smoke that will change the smoking landscape forever. It saves you big money and there's no tar or chemicals. It's much healthier.

It's called Green Smoke. An electronic cigarette designed with the smoker in mind. Nicotine is delivered through water vapor that looks and feels like REAL smoke. You can beat the smoking bans and smoke on YOUR terms. No guilt. It's gone.

Please check out the site. I am on a mission to get this info out there.

There are videos and info. All you need to make an informed decision....
