VLTs tomorrow, Speaker Stumbo says

Frankfort – The House Appropriations and Revenue Committee will hold a hearing at 10 a.m. tomorrow on House Bill 158, House Speaker Greg Stumbo’s legislation that would allow licensed horse tracks to offer video lottery terminals (VLTs).

The meeting, held only for discussion purposes, will feature Speaker Stumbo and three guests: Nick Nicholson, president and CEO of Keeneland in Lexington; Ron Geary, owner of Ellis Park in Henderson; and the Innovation Group, a national consultant on matters involving the gaming, leisure and hospitality industries.

“Their testimony will help my colleagues on the budget committee learn more about the bill and the positive impact it could have on the Commonwealth,” said Speaker Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg. “Given the rapidly declining state of our budget, and the fact that our signature horse industry is facing tough challenges from gaming in other states, I believe this option will only become more attractive in the months ahead. Tomorrow’s meeting will provide important information to the public.”

The meeting will be held in Room 149 of the Capitol Annex.
