Bluegrass Poll finds Jack Conway, Daniel Mongiardo in dead heat; Rand Paul holds lead in Republican race
By Joseph Gerth
Only days before the election, the top two candidates in Kentucky’s Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate are locked in a statistical dead heat, while Republican Rand Paul maintains his double-digit lead in the GOP race, according to the latest Courier-Journal/WHAS11 Bluegrass Poll.
The poll found that Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo leads Attorney General Jack Conway by just 1 percentage point in the Democratic race, setting up a dogfight between now and next Tuesday’s election. That survey of 662 likely voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
Mongiardo’s lead is down from 3 percentage points in the Bluegrass Poll in April and 18 percentage points in March.
The Republican race is virtually unchanged from earlier Bluegrass polls. The latest poll found Paul, a Bowling Green ophthalmologist, leading Secretary of State Trey Grayson by 16 percentage points. The poll of 440 likely voters has a margin of error of 4.8 percentage points.
In the past two Bluegrass polls, Paul led by 15 percentage points.

Editor's comment: Unless Rand Paul is caught with a live boy or a dead (male) prostitute in a seedy motel room, he will be the Republican nominee for Senate come next Tuesday.
As for Democrats, I hope Dan Mongiardo pulls it off. Jack Conway is the wrong candidate for ANY public office!
