GLASGOW — Ten Monroe County residents were indicted in federal court Wednesday, including Monroe County Judge-Executive Wilbur Graves.
A grand jury of the U.S. District Court Western District of Kentucky at Bowling Green handed down indictments in two cases of alleged vote buying involving the 2006 general election in Monroe County.
In one case, Graves is accused of conspiring with Wanda Moore, Ronald Muse and Gary Bartley to sway voters with cash leading up to the 2006 election. Graves won the seat that year, but lost in the 2010 Republican primary that was May 18 to Tommy Willett. Graves term will expire on Dec. 31.
In the second indictment, six people allegedly conspired to buy votes to have Tony Gumm elected as a write-in candidate to the Monroe County Fiscal Court. Gumm lost in the 2006 primary.
Gumm, Martha Hughes, Corey Page, Michael Page, Billy Proffitt and Todd Newport were indicted in Bowling Green federal court for allegedly paying voters to vote for Gumm during the general election.
All defendants are innocent until guilt is found by trial or by admission.
