BREAKING News: Karen Sypher Guilty On ALL Counts In Extortion Attempt Against Rick Pitino. No Surprises There!
Karen Sypher found guilty on all six counts in alleged extortion of Rick Pitino
Karen Sypher was found guilty Thursday by a Louisville federal jury of extorting University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and lying to federal agents.
The jury of six men and six women deliberated roughly 5 1/2 hours over two days before finding Sypher guilty on all six counts shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Sypher was indicted last year on charges of threatening Pitino with the intent to extort money from him, lying to the FBI and retaliating against him when she reported to Louisville police that Pitino raped her twice.
Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Stengel concluded that Sypher’s rape claims were without merit and Pitino wasn't charged.
She faces up to 26 years in prison on all charges, although under federal sentencing guidelines she would more likely get seven to eight years, her attorney, James Earhart, has said.
