It Turns Out Karen Sypher's New Lawyer Is Not Licensed To Practice Law In Kentucky. I Told Y'all The Circus Is Back In Town!
Karen Sypher sentencing in Rick Pitino extortion case postponed for lack of a defense lawyer
By Andrew Wolfson
A federal judge has postponed Karen Sypher’s sentencing for next week because she is currently without a lawyer.
U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson III said that the Washington-area lawyer who sought to substitute as counsel for Sypher is not currently licensed in Washington, D.C., because he failed to pay his bar dues.
As a result, he cannot represent Sypher in the sentencing scheduled Wednesday on her conviction for trying to extort money from University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and lying to the FBI about it.
No new sentencing date has been set.
