American Family Association Sends Out "Thank Yous" For Help In Knocking Off Three Iowa Supreme Court Justices Who Approved Same Sex Marriages.
We cannot thank you enough for making this historic victory possible
AFA Action played a central role in one of the most stunning results from Tuesday’s election - the unseating of no less than three Supreme Court justices in Iowa who imposed same-sex marriage on the Hawkeye State by judicial fiat. In 2009, Iowa’s Supreme Court overrode state law and the will of the people by ordering Iowa to recognize homosexual marriage. Three of the judges who participated in that ruling were on the ballot this fall, facing a retention vote.
AFA Action, enabled by your generous contributions, swung into action and sponsored a campaign to turn these judges out of office at the ballot box. Virtually every single press account from the beginning of this campaign right up until today has cited the role of AFA Action in leading the charge to strike this major blow against judicial activism. In what the Des Moines Register on Wednesday called “a historic upset,” all three justices got thrown off the bench by the people of Iowa. This is unprecedented. No Iowa judge had ever failed to retain his seat on the bench since the retention system was adopted in Iowa in 1962.
In addition to the Iowa victory, www.AFAAction.net registered over one million page views where citizens around the nation were educated on how their members of congress voted on vital pro-family issues in the 111th Congress. The Voter Scorecard included 25 state voter guides and information on various ballot initiatives.
But AFA Action is not content to rest on its laurels. Next year, for instance, the people of Mississippi will have the opportunity at the ballot box to amend its constitution to define personhood as something that begins at the moment of conception. This “Personhood Amendment,” if passed by the people of the Hospitality State, will almost certainly lead to a direct legal challenge to Roe v. Wade and could signal the beginning of the end of legal abortion in America.
The author of the Roe decision, Harry Blackmun, indicated that if the “personhood” of an unborn child were ever to be “established” in law, then the case for abortion rights would collapse, “for the fetus' right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the [14th] Amendment."
Once again, AFA Action has an opportunity to be the leader in a moment of historic opportunity. With your help, AFA Action intends to support this Personhood Amendment all the way from the campaign to the ballot box to the Supreme Court.
