The Campaign Of Gatewood Galbraith Responds To My Invitation To Comment On Payday Loan Campaign Contributions To Steve Beshear And David Williams.

Below is the response of Gatewood Galbraith/Dea Riley gubernatorial campaign:
Independent Gubernatorial Candidate Gatewood Galbraith: “This is the same old government-for-sale mentality that has brought Kentucky to the brink of ruin. Legislation affecting payday loans is being considered by the Legislature and the lenders are making good with those who might be of service to them. These so-called payday loans turn out to be a disaster for many poor wage earners who desperately need some quick money at one time or another. There is no ceiling on the interest and they eventually get charged for it, sometimes as much as 400%.
It is important to the voters of Kentucky that they know that the ticket of Gatewood Galbraith and Dea Riley absolutely opposes such usurious business practices and we seek a maximum of 30% return of these loans.”
Independent Lt. Governor candidate Dea Riley: “After having seen the article (sent from supporters) and being called upon to respond we feel it necessary to make an official statement. We have searched the contributor list of our campaign to discover there have been no contributions received from the Courier Journal’s article featured 39 individuals. If we were to have found contributions we would have returned their monies immediately. We’re simply not for sale. Our loyalties lie with the people of Kentucky and there is no room for anything less- both real and perceived. Remember no one for sale is bought just once – integrity is priceless.”
“We expect the issue of “Payday” loans to loom large in the upcoming debates between the candidates for Governor of Kentucky and the people will respond accordingly at the ballot box in November 2011.”
