As Expected, Joe Denning Becomes First Black Person To Be Bowling Green's Mayor -- Until Special Election In November.
The Bowling Green City Commissioners announced that they've unanimously selected Joe Denning to be the new mayor of Bowling Green.
This decision comes after former Mayor Elaine Walker was appointed Secretary of State.
Mayor-elect Denning was the leading vote getter in the last election.
With this appointment, there is now an opening for a new city commissioner. After Tuesday's commission meeting, there was a closed session to discuss possible names for the spot.
The next Bowling Green City Commission Meeting will be February 15th.
Mayor-elect Denning will hold the position until the November election.
Commissioner Bruce Wilkerson has already filed to run in the mayoral election. Mayor-elect Denning has said he will file as well. Commissioner Brian "Slim" Nash has not made a decision and Commissioner Bill Waltrip has said he does not intend to run for the position.
More updates coming from WBKO and Daily News.
