LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Two veteran Kentucky legislative reporters are among six inductees named to the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame at the University of Kentucky, it was announced Tuesday.
John William "Bill" Bartleman, retired legislative reporter for The Paducah Sun and frequent guest on KET's "Comment on Kentucky," and Tom Loftus, the Frankfort bureau chief for The Courier-Journal of Louisville, are among the inductees.
Also to be inducted in a ceremony April 5 are Jackie Hays Bickel, retired anchor for Louisville's WAVE-TV, who also worked at WHAS-TV in Louisville and KTW-TV in Philadelphia; Robert Carter, retired publisher of the Kentucky New Era of Hopkinsville and a former Kentucky Press Association president who helped put into place the state's open records and open meetings laws; Edward "Ed" Shadburne, former general manager of WLKY-TV and of WHAS-TV-AM-FM, both in Louisville; and Albert Dix (posthumous), former publisher of The State-Journal of Frankfort, who was known as "a reporter's publisher" for his championing of journalism ideals.
The ceremony is to be held at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky in Lexington, according to a news release from the university.
The annual selections are made by a committee representing the state's media, the UK Journalism Alumni Association and the university.
Since the inception of the Hall of Fame in 1981, 172 other journalists have been inducted.
