Steve Beshear Touts Economic Development In New Email. Read More.
Dear Supporter,
Throughout the Commonwealth, many Kentucky families are still feeling the effects of the economic recession. That’s why I have worked tirelessly to create and retain jobs in every corner of the Commonwealth. Last week, we saw further evidence that our efforts are paying off, as the unemployment rate dropped below 10 percent for the first time in two years.
This week, I announced four projects that show economic development in Kentucky is on the right track.
AT&T will create 200 jobs at a call center in Carter County and will make investments to improve cell service across the state. MVP Group International, which manufactures candles and home fragrance products, will expand its operations in Graves County, creating 16 jobs. And Eaton Corporation opened two new state-of-the-art facilities in Shelby and Jefferson counties. The MVP and Eaton projects are two of the many projects assisted by the economic development incentives overhaul I championed in 2009.
I also announced $1 million in funding for a new community education and training center in Bath County and that 45 Kentucky counties with high unemployment will now offer their residents more access to computers, training and job workshops at local libraries. The increased technology and academic resources will help these communities be more competitive for jobs.
We still have a long road ahead before Kentucky families feel financially secure. I won’t stop until every Kentuckian that wants a job has a job. Thanks for your continued support.
Best Wishes,
Steve Beshear
