Louisville Courier Journal Takes The UNUSUAL Step Of Chastising A Democrat, Says "Gov. Beshear Ought To Be Ashamed Of The Way That He Conducted Himself [With The Fort Campbell Debacle.] We AGREE!
Editorial | No snub, just cynicism
Back in May when President Obama came to Fort Campbell to salute the Navy SEALS team that killed Osama bin Laden, this newspaper and others were critical of Gov. Steve Beshear, who carried on with his Oaks Day plans and didn't greet the President on a visit to the Bluegrass State.
As it turns out, Mr. Beshear was not invited by the White House to the event, which was also attended by Vice President Joe Biden. A staff inquiry made that clear back in May, but neither Mr. Beshear nor his campaign made any effort to set the record straight.
We called the Governor “the Artful Dodger” for snubbing Mr. Obama. We can think of worse names in view of the facts that now have been revealed.
Sen. David Williams, Mr. Beshear's Republican opponent, was right when he said the Governor was engaged in “a cynical effort to gain favor with Kentucky voters who don't approve of Barack Obama. …”
In his column in today's Forum section, commentator Al Cross notes that Mr. Beshear does intend to endorse his party's president for re-election. That's big of him. Our question is, why bother?
Our position on this president and his policies is equally clear. Gov. Beshear ought to be ashamed of the way that he conducted himself. Cynical indeed.
