Melody Barnes, President Barack Obama's domestic policy adviser, will leave the White House at the end of the year to spend more time with family and consider opportunities in the private sector, senior administration officials told POLITICO on Thursday. "I also look forward to devoting time to doing everything I can to ensure that President Obama is re-elected," Barnes said. Her departure -- another West Wing loss of a popular woman ahead of a brutal reelection campaign - took colleagues by surprise. Obama said in a statement: "I will always be grateful that a woman of Melody's brilliance, creativity and heart led our domestic policy team during such a challenging time for our nation. Melody has left a lasting legacy, developing and implementing policies that have helped remake our education system, spurred innovation, and fostered opportunity and equality for millions of Americans."
