Judge Maze, two others nominated for Court of Appeals opening
Three lawyers have been nominated to fill the Kentucky Court of Appeals seat vacated by Judge Tom Wine, who resigned to run for Jefferson County commonwealth’s attorney.
The Judicial Nominating Commission announced Wednesday that the nominees are Irv Maze, Ruth Ann Cox Pence and Harold Gwyn Wren, all of Louisville.
Maze, a former Jefferson County attorney, has been a Jefferson circuit judge since 2008. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.
Pence, wife of former U.S. Attorney and Kentucky lieutenant governor Steve Pence, is associated with the firm of Pence & Ogburn in Louisville. She also graduated from the U of L law school.
Wren was of counsel for attorney James R. Voyles from 2000 to 2009. He previously served as dean and professor at the U of L law school and graduated from Columbia University School of Law and Yale Law School.
Gov. Steve Beshear will appoint one of the three to the Court of Appeals within 60 days.
Maze, Pence and Jefferson Circuit Judge James Shake filed in January to run for the office.
