William Jefferson wins Lousiana run-off.

William Jefferson, U. S. Rep. from Louisiana who was implicated in a bribery scandal and $90,000.00 was found in his freezer, has won a run-off election -- he is headed back to Washington. Read it here. This win came about in spite of the fact that the local Democratic leadership refused to endorse his candidacy and he has the threat of an indictment hanging over his head. I wonder how Nancy Pelosi is going to handle this one. Meanwhile, it proves the Louisiana (Kentucky, too?) adage that the only way for an incumbent to lose an election is to be caught in bed with a dead woman or a live boy.

Funny, I took the relevent adage to be "Boy, Republicans must really suck if they can't beat somebody like Jefferson." That would be what I think most people would think first off. But if you read a lot of right-wing diatribes it's always "When a Republican does X, he resigns, when a Democrat does X, he is reelected" and then they blame the left wing media.

I am totally stunned he was reelected. Just another name to throw into the Kennedy, Kerry, Hillary bunch that the right wing will hold up as epitomizing the Democratic Party. To which I will always counter "Why can't they be beat?", and I mean election-wise, not in the "with a baseball bat" way that Ann Coulter espouses. What could possibly make their particular cup of crazy, better than their Republican opposition?

Nothing like a Democratic majority to get Republicans on board with term limits.
