Don Imus disparages Rutgers Womens' Basketball Players ...

... calls the mostly Black players "nappy-headed 'hos". He apologizes, goes to Al Sharpston's show (as if the Reverend is a spokesperson for Black America), is scheduled to meet the team members and is suspended from his talk show for two weeks. Later, in a "bone-headed" moment, Don Imus makes an (rhyming word here) excuse by suggesting his comments were OK because others (like Black Rappers use the phrase, so why not him?). So is this 2 week suspension enough punishment or a slap on the wrist for Imus' racist asinine behavior?

Update: Read the wit(less?) and (lack of?) wisdom of Don Imus. Scroll to the bottom to see examples. Not included on the list is Don Imus calling Secretary Cohen's marriage to a Black woman "Jungle fever".

Also, advertises start exiting the Don Imus show.

Update #2: MSNBC and parent network, NBC, have dropped the simulcasting of Imus' show. Stay tuned for further developments.

Update #3: CBS has "permanently" canned the Don Imus show. Is it the right decision?

Update # 4: The Rutgers Womens Basketball team shows CLASS and CHARACTER that others do NOT have or know to to display, and forgive Don Imus.

Do you agree or Disagree?

I honestly don't know what's more insulting for African Americans... hearing a media personality call black students nappy headed hos or having said media person (and virtually everyone else in America) assume that morons like Al Sharpton and moron-lites like Jesse Jackson are the embodiments of Af. Americans.

It would be like assuming the moron from the other side of the political aisle, Jerry Falwell, speaks for all white christians.

BTW, what prompted his statement anyway? I've watched Imus and he insults everyone but why was he going after these students?

The best punishment for him is to turn the channel. Sounds like the advertisers are already fearing that will happen. I'm not sure he needs to be fired for being an idiot... hell, he was an idiot before this and nobody moved to fire him.

Breaking News: I-man set to join Howard Stern (no, not the guy who's not the father of Anna N's baby) on sat. TV where calling people names like this will reap millions. Up in smoke goes American culture.. or lack thereof.

This so angers me!! I am not a fan of Imus however, people like the ignorant Sharpton & Jackson clearly have a chip on their shoulder and want to lash out at anyone other than their own race. How about thoes Rappers who clearly belittle women and their own race by using racial & sexist slurs. A man of god is what Al Sharpton calls himself.... in what universe?

"I SUPPORT DON IMUS 110%". WHAT HE SAID WAS "TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT". HE SHOULDNT HAVE GOTTEN FIRED OR APOLOGISED FOR SOMETHING THAT BLACKS SAY TO EACH OTHER. BLACK PEOPLE SAY BLACK RACIAL WORDS TO EACH OTHER, BLACK RAPPERS SINGS OF BLACK RACIAL WORDS AND BLACK COMEDIANS JOKES ABOUT BLACK RACIAL WORDS. THE BLACK COMMUNITY NEEDS TO "LEAD BY EXAMPLE". THE BLACK COMMUNITY NEEDS TO STOP THIS "DOUBLE STANDARD" AND STOP BEEING A BUNCH OF "HYPOCRITES".

To ALL the Caucasians who express OUTRAGE because Imus has finally reaped the rotten fruit of the seeds he's planted for over three decades: it would be interesting to compare your reactions if he had made a racist remark about the JEWS!

I am so sick and tired of racist blacks. What do you expect when black rappers call their black women niggas hos and bitches then hook up with a white woman. I guess the they believe what Imus said is true. That why all hell broke loose. I am boycotting sprint and procter and gamble and american express. I have blocked cbs and msnbc from my tv

"KEEP HOS ALIVE" Join the Rainbow Push

MSNBC and CBS are way off the mark on this one. I would like to see all who agree join me in a massive boycott of both companies. And as for you number 5 you need to get your facts straight. Don Imus has done a lot of good over the years. He hates everybody? Is that why he has done a radiothon raising money for cancer research since 1990 and has a camp for cancer patients? Rappers call women hoes and a lot worse all the time yet nobody bats an eye. Howard Stern has degraded women for years and nobody jumped up and said anything about it. I guess since they were white women it didn't matter to Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. They didn't want to bother themselves with trying to clean up sexism. Their only mo is digging for racism. Well as far as I can see this country has a real problem. With leaders like Sharpton and Jackson calling the shots the white community doesn't stand a chance. They are making a mockery out of morality. I'd like to know why the woman who falsely accused the Duke Lacrosse team of rape got to slink away as if it never happened when it came to light it never happened? Those guys lost a year of their lives and what's worse, even though cleared of all charges they would probably be looked at differently from now on. I saw no big public apology or any signs of her even trying to make restitutions for her actions. Instead I read where Jesse Jackson says he will pay for her college education regardless of the outcome of the trial that never needed to be. He claimed it was so she no longer had to strip. Well, Mr Jackson nobody in this country HAS to strip or become a prostitute to earn a living. People who claim the HAVE to are the people who want the fast buck minus the hard work. Back in the day parents taught their children the difference between right and wrong and that goals could be achieved through hard work. Those morals are still the ones I use today. As for Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson being my moral compass I say No way. Please support the boycott.

Well, I do not know about boycotts but you make valid points, particularly with respect to the Duke Lacrosse team -- read my posts here on the case. The BIG difference, however, between the two cases is, AT LEAST, the Rutgers team NEVER invited the racist rant, but the Duke boys exposed (no pun intended) themselves to be victims of a FALSE accusation!

I'd say it's long overdue for everyone to stop using low-grade language. I have very little sympathy for Imus, he had no business being a parrot trying to be cool. Why do people mindlessly parrot some basement-level ghetto jargon that doesn't even belong to them?

This should also be a wake-up call to young white kids who are in the ghetto-wanna-be herd. It's not going to be OK for you to imitate and aspire to the ghetto. It's time to get over it, and learn to be yourself and not a clone of somebody else you can never be in any case.

Not with racial pride, not by putting anybody down. You need to be who YOU are and let others be who they are. The problem of intolerance and crude jargon needs to be cleaned up and the only way to do it is one person at a time for him/herself.

White pride/black pride is one of the biggest obstacles. This is a seriously pointless and destructive, dare I say stupid kind of pride. Time to lose the pride in the superficial and the low, and learn to be proud of the more elevated qualities we all have.

While it may be uncomfortable, we have to know that the reason for the outrage is that the most offended ones know that they also throw around this same kind of speech, they know it's insensitive and they still do it. They blow up as if on cue when they see their own reflection in somebody else. Hopefully these "victims" will realize that they have an opportunity to gain some strength.

They don't need to leave themselves wide open to such easy and superficial victimization and a good start would be to find the correlated behavior in themselves first and deal appropriately with it.
