Terrorist Interrogation "Torture Tapes" Missing
"Torture Tapes" Missing
From today's NYT:
The Central Intelligence Agency in 2005 destroyed at least two videotapes documenting the interrogation of two Qaeda operatives in the agency’s custody, a step it took in the midst of Congressional and legal scrutiny about its secret detention program, according to current and former government officials.
The videotapes showed agency operatives in 2002 subjecting terrorism suspects — including Abu Zubaydah, the first detainee in C.I.A. custody — to severe interrogation techniques. The tapes were destroyed in part because officers were concerned that video showing harsh interrogation methods could expose agency officials to legal risks, several officials said.
In a statement to employees on Thursday, Gen. Michael V. Hayden, the C.I.A. director, said that the decision to destroy the tapes was made “within the C.I.A.” and that they were destroyed to protect the safety of undercover officers and because they no longer had intelligence value.
Comment: I know that I will receive vicious comments for this but I believe that the CIA was right in destroying those tapes as the last thing we need is for them to show up on You Tube. We live in desperate times when Islamic terrorists want to destroy our way of life. Our government was able to obtain invaluable information from the use of the water boarding technique on Sheik Mohammad who was the mastermind of 9/11.
We cannot serve these terrorists tea and crumpets and expect to obtain vital information that might prevent another attack on this country.
Sheik Mohammad admitted to killing more than 3000 people on 9/11 and to beheading WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl. Forgive me if I don't feel remorse for his two-and-a-half minutes of "torture" through the use of waterboarding!

I do not know about you or anyone else, but having lived under an authoritarian regime, I am NOT so quick to let government get away with actions such as destroying what could become evidence of government wrongdoing so I would welcome an inquiry.
Think Richard Millhouse "Tricky Dick" Nixon.
Also, two WRONGS do NOT make a RIGHT, my friend!
Oh, BTW, you should probably check this out.
