Turn signal shines spotlight on Beshear administration.

The story of the turn signal has shined the spotlight on the young Beshear administration, even to the extent of drawing a rare sort of rebuke from the liberal Herald Leader, that is normally forgiven of Democratic actions, foibles and all.

As the newspaper stated, while urging the administration to "send the right signal" and " ... end the spoils system":

Gov. Steve Beshear spoke about trust in his inaugural address, first quoting Henry Clay: "Government is a trust, and the officers of the government are trustees. And both the trust and the trustees are created for the benefit of the people."

Beshear went on to say in his own words, "We need to get our own house in order before we can be trusted to do the people's business."

He was absolutely right.

That's why the newly installed left-turn signal close to the home of Beshear's Transportation Cabinet secretary is a problem.

So while the amount in question may be small compared to other more questionable government expenditures, this outcry over the turn signal must serve to continuously remind the Beshear administration that it is under the people's (or, at least, the press') microscope, so to speak.
