Speaking Of Fireworks, Greg Fischer And Bruce Lunsford Are About To Declare Political Nuclear War.
Watch Greg Fishers' new ad (his last ad moved his poll numbers, and continued "attack ads" are sure to keep moving his poll numbers up, but will he catch up to Bruce Lunsford? Time will tell, but one thing that is also sure is that the ads are also causing Bruce Lunsford untold GRIEF -- read his response to Fisher's ad after the ad):
From the day he announced his candidacy, Greg Fischer’s entire campaign has been about tearing down Bruce Lunsford.
Mr. Fischer refused to sign the Kentucky Democratic Party’s Oath of Honorable Campaigning and was the only one of the seven Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate not to sign. By refusing to sign the pledge, he opposed the goal of Democratic leaders to have a positive primary campaign about issue positions and invalidated the pledges of the six other candidates.
Mr. Fischer then proceeded to run personal attack ads that have been called “inaccurate” and “wrong” by Kentucky newspapers.
Greg Fischer has also ignored personal appeals from Congressman John Yarmuth, Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo, Attorney General Jack Conway, State Auditor Crit Luallen, Former Governor John Y. Brown, Jr., Lt. Colonel Andrew Horne, Former Secretary of State John Y. Brown III, and other Democratic leaders
to stop the divisive personal attacks on Bruce Lunsford. Over 140 other Democratic, Labor and progressive leaders and activists have also signed a letter calling on Mr. Fischer to stop his personal attacks.
We understand that Greg Fischer is preparing yet another attack on Bruce Lunsford. Thus, we are asking one last time that Mr. Fischer stop these personal and negative attacks. When Greg Fischer and his campaign accuse Bruce Lunsford of securities fraud, insider trading, and many other false charges about Bruce not having a so-called “clean business background,” they go well beyond politics and slide into the world of character assassination.
Bruce has had a long and distinguished career in both public service and the private sector. He has served as Kentucky’s Secretary of Commerce, is a member of the Kentuckiana Business Hall of Fame, was named “Business Leader of the Year” by the University of Kentucky and “Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry” by the American Institute of CPA’s, and has served on the Boards of the University of Kentucky, Greater Louisville Fund for the Arts, Kentucky Economic Development Corporation, and many other organizations and institutions. Given this record, it is shameful that Greg Fischer continues to smear Bruce Lunsford’s name.
Although Bruce Lunsford continues to maintain a sizeable lead over Greg Fischer in all polling, there is no reason why we should continue to be subjected to false personal attacks that tarnish his reputation. If Greg Fischer can’t sell himself to the public
on the merits of his candidacy, he should not resort to desperate campaign tactics.
We have been patient enough to give Mr. Fischer an opportunity to change the course of his campaign. Yet he continues to ignore the pleas of Democratic leaders, Labor leaders, and progressive activists. Democrats are tired of Mr. Fischer’s McConnell-style campaigning and are urging our campaign to treat Mr. Fischer like he is Mitch McConnell.
Please consider this letter our final request that Greg Fischer stop his negative attacks on Bruce Lunsford. We will not be swift-boated by Greg Fischer and his supporters and it is not our intention to unilaterally disarm. Bruce Lunsford would not be expected to do that in a race against Mitch McConnell or while serving in the United States Senate.
As former Governor John Y. Brown, Jr. said in his personal appeal to Mr. Fischer, “Win with honor or don’t offer yourself to public service.”
