Governor Steve Beshear Hires Former Law Firm; Reverses Ban On Sex Orientation Discrimination; And Elevates Labor Department To Cabinet.
A Few news items from Kentucky.
First, the Governor has hired his former law firm to represent him in a lawsuit filed against him by "King" David Williams over the veto of the two year road fund reported earlier on this blog.
Editor's comment: Though many accuse the governor of playing favorites with his former law firm and some may even accuse him of corruption, the Governor is right that he needs to hire a law firm that he trusts to defend him personally from a personal lawsuit brought against him.
Second, the governor has lifted his predecessor's removal of a ban on sexual orientation discrimination in employment.
Editor's comment: As long as sexual orientation discrimination is NOT elevated to the same level that will suggest that members are a PROTECTED class, then I guess the ban may be alright.
Third (with Editor's comment), the Governor has made a WISE move of elevating the Labor Department to a Cabinet. This is a move I supported.
I also wish the Governor would re-organize the Cabinet and include offices and departments to deal with labor and workers' activities within it, as the Governor's Transition Team had suggested.
