McCAIN HURTING NORTHUP
Don't fret too much about the polls showing Ann Northup trailing John Yarmuth. Summer polling is notoriously weighted against Republican candidates, and Northup has a great issue to work on the next 4 months- Gas Prices.
Ann was a leader in Congress in trying to get more oil drilling in Alaska and will focus on this, while Yarmuth is someone so liberal he thinks cutting off exploration and raising taxes is somehow an answer to $4.00 gas.
Republicans can make hay with this and the Dems have no answer, as outraged motorists stew over high prices until November. This has the potential to turn the whole 2008 election on its head, because the public is starting to figure out this issue and are they angry.
One small problem- John McCain is on the wrong side. Other than lukewarm support for nuclear power, McCain is virtually the same as Obama on energy. He wants no drilling in Alaska or offshore, he buys the nutty hoax of global warming and wants this trillion dollar scam imposed on America's taxpayers. It is shameful how off message and poorly informed McCain is in this area, and it could cost the GOP dearly in the end.
As with immigration, though, I think the grass roots will lead the party past its Beltway defeatists. Look for the platform committee of the RNC in St. Paul to vote out a powerful plank on energy- i.e.- Gingrich's Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less! Eventually even John McCain will get the message. We can only hope that comes sooner rather than later.

I support John McCain on these issues except the tax one.
I believe the key to our gas problems lie in Conservation, finding alternative energy sources and criminal prosecution of oil speculators who break our anti-trust laws.
Drilling in Alaska only dulls the gas pain TEMPORARILY, but provides NO meaningful LASTING solution!
I agree with you KYJD.
You would think "conservatives" would get that pound foolishness is to no one's benefit.
