Brett Guthrie For Congress Campaign Release.

Brett Guthrie Surpasses Three Quarters of a Million Dollar Raised

Has Banked $765,821 Total

Raised $363,554 in Second Quarter

Has FOURTEEN TIMES as much cash-on-hand as David Boswell

(Bowling Green, KY) State Senator Brett Guthrie, the Republican nominee for Congress in Kentucky’s Second Congressional District, raised $363,554 in the second quarter of 2008, which ended June 30. Since entering the race on January 29, Guthrie has raised $765,821 total and has $661,199 cash on hand. Guthrie has more than fourteen times the cash-on-hand of his Democrat opponent David Boswell, who reported cash-on-hand of $45,206.19, and debts of more than $18-thousand. Guthrie will file his report with the Federal Election Commission today.

“I continue to be humbled by the outpouring of support my campaign has received,” Guthrie said. “I have said all along I intend to run a campaign the people of the Second District can be proud of, and we are on pace to do just that.

“People are getting the message,” said Guthrie, noting that he has collected at least one contribution from every county in the Second District. “Expand domestic energy production. Keep taxes low. Give law enforcement the tools they need to win the War on Terror. Those are the things I’m talking about and people are responding.”

Because of Guthrie’s fundraising ability, his campaign announced yesterday it had purchased advertising on radio stations across the district outlining Guthrie’s position on high gas prices.

As a comparison to 2006, Democrat candidate Mike Weaver, who lost to Cong. Ron Lewis by over 10-points, had over $335-thousand cash-on-hand at this point in the race compared to Boswell’s $45-thousand. Weaver ultimately raised just under $1 million for his campaign and still lost by double-digits. Boswell is on pace to raise far less than what Weaver collected in his unsuccessful 2006 campaign.
