Congressman Ron Lewis Endorses Brett Guthrie in Hardinsburg
Lewis comes home from Washington to assist Guthrie in Congressional race

(Hardinsburg) On Wednesday, August 13, Congressman Ron Lewis campaigned with State Senator Brett Guthrie in Breckinridge County, telling voters that Guthrie “is the right man to replace me in Washington D.C.” Before a gathering at the community center, Lewis fully endorsed Guthrie’s candidacy and said he would be “doing all he can” to send Guthrie to Washington.

“This good man is going to Washington, and he's going to do a great job. This really is the most important election in my lifetime, and Brett Guthrie is a big key to making sure we have a voice for conservative values representing us in Congress,” Lewis said.

Congressman Lewis spoke of the energy debate in Washington D.C. He said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, adjourned the Congress for a five week vacation without allowing a single vote on expanded oil drilling in the United States. Lewis has been in Washington with other Republicans on the House floor demanding that Pelosi reconvene the Congress to do something about this serious problem.

“If we don’t elect people like Brett Guthrie, the liberals in Washington will get their way and will never allow a vote on America producing more of its own oil,” Lewis said.

Guthrie pledged to uphold Congressman Lewis’s strong leadership if he goes to Washington.

“If I am fortunate enough to earn the trust of Kentucky voters, I will continue to fight for American energy independence. We have to lower prices, and we have to produce more of our own energy to protect national security. Ron Lewis is a patriot for standing up for us, and I will fight to continue that legacy.”

Last week, Guthrie signed a petition asking Speaker Pelosi to call Congress back in to session, and he asked his opponent, David Boswell, to do the same. Boswell refused to sign the petition and told the newspaper in Owensboro that the issue of high gas prices “can wait” until after Congress goes on vacation.

“I strongly disagree,” Guthrie said. “Congress should have acted long ago. It’s ludicrous for them to go on vacation while families across the country are cancelling their vacations because of high gas prices.”

On the energy issue, Lewis added: “We are facing one of the greatest challenges since World War II, and it is extremely important Brett Guthrie be elected to fight for more domestic oil drilling to save our economy.”

Guthrie said he admired Lewis for standing up for conservative values, lower taxes, and Kentucky’s agriculture economy.

Lewis said Guthrie has his full support.

“Brett is a good man. He's a conservative and shares our values. We need to roll up our sleeves and get a good strong conservative elected to Congress. I'm going to do everything I can...I'm going to do my part for Brett Guthrie,” Lewis said.
