You can visit the poll here, the pie chart, and the filtering below:

Kentucky's McConnell Now Has Some Breathing Room in US Senate Re-Election Bid: In an election for United States Senator from Kentucky held today, 08/12/08, incumbent Republican Mitch McConnell defeats Democrat Bruce Lunsford 52% to 40%, according to this SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WHAS-TV Louisville, WLEX-TV Lexington, and WCPO-TV Cincinnati. Compared to a SurveyUSA poll released eight weeks ago, McConnell is up 2 points; Lunsford is down 6. Among men, McConnell had led by 8, now leads by 11. Among women, McConnell had led by 2, now leads by 11. Among voters age 18 to 49, McConnell had led by 5, now leads by 6; among voters 50+, McConnell had led by 5, now leads by 11. McConnell holds 83% of Republican voters; Lunsford holds 63% of Democrats, little changed from eight weeks ago. Then, McConnell led by 10 among Independents; today, Independents evenly split between McConnell and Lunsfotd. Lunsford leads in the Louisville area by 6 points, down from 13 points eight weeks ago; McConnell continues to lead in the rest of the state. McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, is running for his fifth term. Lunsford, a Louisville businessman, ran in the Democratic primaries for Kentucky Governor in 2003 and 2007.
Editor's comment: While my first instinct is to suspect that 12% lead is too much of a lead for the Senator (I do STILL believe that the Senator will win re-election with about a 5% cushion), especially considering the slight under sampling of Democrats (the sample used was 50% Democratic, 39% Republican, 9% Other. Actual demography is Democrats 1,647,140 (57.26%), Republicans 1,043,331 (36.27%) and "Other" 186,079 (6.49%), I have concluded that it is FOOLHARDY to quarrel with the outfit because their ACCURACY is, in my view, UNQUESTIONABLE.
So with that in mind I recognize one thing, and also have a suggestion for the Senator:
(1) I recognize that the Senator leads Bruce Lunsford in EVERY category EXCEPTin Louisville where Lunsford has a slight lead, amongst 18 to 24 year olds, Blacks (I do NOT know why), Democrats/Liberals (surprise, surprise), and pro-choice voters (another surprise!)
(2) The suggestion: As shown by the poll results, voters think the next president ought to be more engage in issues affecting the economy, immigration and Terrorism, in reverse order of importance.
It may be time NOW to up the ante on TERRORISM and IMMIGRATION, and s-l-o-w-l-y back away from the TIRED gas prices.
Just my two cents.
