SURVEYUSA Poll Compares Kentucky's Senate Candidates With Each Other. Read The Results Below, Nine Months Before The Votes Are Cast.
In US Senate Primaries in KY, Republican Grayson & Democrat Mongiardo with Slight Advantage: Nine months until the primary for United States Senator from Kentucky, Republican Trey Grayson and Democrat Dan Mongiardo have an early advantage, according to this exclusive WHAS-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA.
Today, 08/18/2009, nine months until the Republican primary, Grayson edges Rand Paul 37% to 26%. Paul, an eye surgeon, political activist, and son of Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul, leads among the youngest voters and in Eastern Kentucky. Grayson, Kentucky's Secretary of State, is ahead among all other groups and runs particularly strongly among moderates, among pro-choice voters, and in Greater Louisville. Three other candidates are in single digits; 13% of likely Republican primary voters say they will vote for another candidate; 17% are undecided.
In a Democratic primary today, nine months until the vote, Mongiardo edges Jack Conway 39% to 31%. Among women, Mongiardo, who is Kentucky's Lieutenant Governor, leads by 12 points; among men, Mongiardo leads by 3. Conway, currently Kentucky's Attorney General, leads by 17 points in the Louisville area and is effectively tied with Mongiardo in the North Central portion of the state. Mongiardo leads by nearly 4:1 in Eastern Kentucky and by 2:1 in Western Kentucky. Three other Democratic candidates on the ballot poll in single digits; 9% of likely Democratic primary voters say they will vote for another candidate; 14% are undecided.
