Bowling Green Daily News: Don’t Vote For Any U.S. Senate Hopeful May 18. OUCH!
Don’t vote for any U.S. Senate hopeful May 18
By the Daily News
It would be nice for once to see candidates for political offices actually talking about the issues that affect their constituents rather than resorting to negative attacks, but unfortunately that is mostly what we have seen from the four major players in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate primary.
Republican candidates Dr. Rand Paul and Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Democratic candidates Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Jack Conway are all guilty of running negative campaigns.
Kentuckians don’t hear enough about what these candidates want to do for our state and nation, like they deserve, but instead they have to listen to petty bickering and view attack ads over and over.
Voters who have been paying attention to the campaign know what we are talking about.
This type of negative campaigning does nothing to give the citizens of this state an idea of who they should vote for or provide them information about a particular candidate. It disenfranchises people from the system who would truly like to get involved.
That is why we are urging people not to vote for any of the major candidates in Republican and Democratic primaries on May 18.
As candidates for a six-year term job, they have a responsibility in their campaign ads to lay out their thoughts and possible solutions to the extremely important issues our nation faces.
For example, what combination of taxes and entitlement cuts would they employ to confront a budget deficit that will be disastrous if not addressed?
While all candidates have not totally ignored issues, the focus of their campaigns seems to be to paint their opponents in a very negative light.
When the citizens of this state have to endure the negative campaigning generated by these candidates, why should they vote for any of them?
If these candidates can’t focus on what they want to do to move this nation forward and prefer to act like a bunch of kids on a playground, they are not deserving of anyone’s votes.
We hope people do come out to vote in local and state races, but in this primary, voting for any of the four major U.S. Senate candidates will only encourage bad behavior.
Perhaps after the primary is over, the winners will realize they have committed a disservice to our citizens and will run a positive campaign in the general election that might make them worthy of a vote in November.
