"RNC Chairman [,Michael Steele,] Needs To Resign From Position".

RNC chairman needs to resign from position
By the Daily News

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele’s recent comments about the war in Afghanistan being of “Obama’s choosing” were not only factually inaccurate, but they were just plain ignorant and ill-advised.

Steele made the comments Thursday at a fundraiser in Connecticut.

Steele should’ve taken a quick history lesson before making these statements.

The war in Afghanistan was actually launched by former President George W. Bush after the horrific attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. President Barack Obama was a state senator at the time, so he wasn’t able to even vote for or against the war.

Bush, with the backing of Congress, appropriately launched the war in Afghanistan because we were hunting Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of Sept. 11, who was being harbored by the Taliban-led government of that country.

Yes, Obama inherited the war in Afghanistan from Bush, but in fairness to Obama, he has said on numerous occasions that the war in Afghanistan was one of necessity and he has provided additional troops and equipment to help win it.

What Steele needs to realize is that this wasn’t Bush’s war or Obama’s war, it is America’s war.

At the same fundraiser, Steele went on to suggest that the war can’t be won.

This sounds like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., saying the war in Iraq was lost, during the early stage of the troop surge in Iraq.

We hate to put these two men in the same context, but there are some similarities between the statements.

Steele has a history of shooting from the hip with comments that have embarrassed his party since he was elected to his position in 2009.

His most recent statements, though, were a direct blow to the morale of our troops who are fighting bravely against a resolute foe. They deserve encouragement from all Americans, not negativity.

Steele is a huge liability to the Republican Party and in the best interest of the party and this country, he should resign.
