Holy Cow, Dude: Todd Lally Tied With John Yarmuth In New Bluegrass Poll!
Two months before the election, the race for Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District is tighter than expected between U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth and Republican challenger Todd Lally, according to the latest Courier-Journal/WHAS11 Bluegrass Poll.
The poll shows Yarmuth with 47 percent and Lally at 45 percent. Those results are within the poll’s margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.
The poll surveyed 541 likely voters in the Third Congressional District by telephone Aug. 27-30. Five percent identified themselves as undecided. Independent candidate Michael Hansen and Libertarian candidate Ed Martin each got 1 percent.
Lally said the results were encouraging, and could bring a boost in fundraising and national attention to the race.
“This will get the base motivated,” said Lally, who is advocating for lower taxes and less government spending.
Yarmuth, an incumbent with more campaign money than Lally, said he wasn’t worried about the poll and predicted the voters would side with him after the campaigns get underway in earnest after Labor Day.
“I welcome the added attention, so voters know the choice they face,” he said.
