Governor Steve Beshear files for re-election
Announces seasoned veteran Bill Hyers as campaign manager

Today Governor Steve Beshear, with running mate Jerry Abramson, former mayor of Louisville, filed to run for re-election to the office of Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

“I am proud of our hard work over the past three years to help Kentucky families through these difficult economic times,” said Gov. Beshear. “Despite the worst economic recession of our lifetimes, I have created and saved thousands of jobs all across the state and balanced the state budget eight times without raising broad-based taxes on Kentucky families and businesses. Though I am excited to officially file to run for re-election, my focus remains on working hard for the people of Kentucky.”

Gov. Beshear also noted his excitement that Jerry Abramson would serve as his running mate. “Jerry will be a terrific lieutenant governor for all of Kentucky – bringing his energy and experience in creating quality jobs for Louisville to communities across the Commonwealth.”

“I’m proud of what I’ve done as Louisville’s Mayor over the past two decades to improve my hometown and my home state,” said Abramson. “But I’m also proud of what Steve has done as Kentucky’s Governor in very challenging times and proud of the hard work and sacrifice of the Kentuckians I work with every day,” said Abramson. “As Washington wakes up to the idea of balancing budgets and cutting spending, we’ve got a Governor who has shown that in Kentucky, we already know a little something about fiscal responsibility. And while Kentuckians have heard a lot recently about politicians who say they know how to create jobs, Steve’s actually done it.”

Gov. Beshear also announced that Bill Hyers, who has run gubernatorial, senatorial and mayoral campaigns across the nation, had joined the campaign as campaign manager. “I am thrilled to join the Beshear Abramson campaign, and their efforts to bring prosperity to all corners of the Commonwealth,” said Hyers.
