We Can't Understand What Julie Denton Was Thinking, To Miss MANDATORY Legislative Ethics Training Sessions. *SIGH*.

Ky. lawmaker to explain missed ethics sessions

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- A Kentucky lawmaker is set to appear before the Legislative Ethics Commission in April to explain why she missed four of the last six mandatory ethics training sessions.

Ethics Commission Chairman George Troutman said Tuesday that state Sen. Julie Denton, R-Louisville, has failed to attend the January session for four of the last six years after being warned about her attendance.

Denton told the Lexington Herald-Leader that obligations at her private sector job prevented her from attending the sessions. Denton said she will attend future sessions if told to do so.

Lawmakers are legally required to spend three hours every January in ethics training. The training is part of an ethics law passed after a 1992 investigation exposed 15 current or former legislators who swapped votes for gifts and favors.
