My Take On Kentucky's Primary Elections And My Predictions For The General Elections. (BTW: Kentucky's TEA Party Was A FLOP).
Governor's race:
Republicans:
While giving due credit to Phil Moffett for his TEA party fueled late surge garnering the votes of the heretofore "undecideds", and getting 38% of the total votes cast without much campaign cash, it is PLAINLY OBVIOUS that David Williams won IN SPITE of the TEA Party targeting him.
Now some members of the TEA party are making NOXIOUS noise about not voting for David Williams in the general election, preferring instead to take their "ball and go home" since they lost the election contest.
The TEA party should be reminded that if they do, Republicans will remember that attitude when another TEA party candidate seeks their vote.
Bobbie Halcslaw was a political no show, and her OVER dependency on Jefferson County
Republicans to carry her past the political finish line, was a curious move best left to those who indulge themselves in the "benefits" of hallucinating drugs, like LSD or crack.
Democrats:
Steve Beshear was unopposed in the Democratic primary and his name was not on the ballot. However, for all intents and purposes, he had opposition by way of Allison Lundergan Grimes and his name was on the ballot as Elaine Nogay Walker, who was subsequently politically "spanked" by Mrs. Grimes.
Like I said in another earlier post, if I were Steve Beshear I would NOT have slept well on election night, as the results foretell a rather foreboding political future.
Why, you ask?
For one reason, EVERY credible Democratic politician sided with Mrs. Grimes against Mrs. Walker, in a replay of the continuing political feud between Mrs. Grimes' father, Jerry Lundergan, and Steve Beshear.
Hatfields and McCoys feud are tame in comparison;
For another reason, Steve Beshear made the political faux pas of DISSING President Barack Obama when he came to Fort Campbell to congratulate the troops for a job well done in killing Osama Bin Laden -- a very worthy cause -- by not showing up to greet him (and the deserving soldiers). This diss has greatly angered African Americans, a VERY key constituency for Beshear, and others.
So how does someone like Steve Beshear make such a faux pas, and diss a President of the United States, especially one of his own party (which, I predict, will come to bite him in the political ass)? By listening to the WRONG adviser, whoever that person is.
It is no wonder Steve Beshear QUICKLY had that press conference on election night trying to "fire up his base", and subsequently released a list of his Republican supporters, most of whom live in Louisville and work for him -- or have relatives who do or benefit somehow from his governorship.
Moreover, one thing as a reason, that every observer seems to miss or overlook, is the theory of mine that Democrats, like Greg Stumbo, REALLY want David Williams out of the Legislature -- even if it means handing the Governorship to him, since they have tried other means of doing so and failed MISERABLY!
Yep, you read that right. I believe in my theory, do you not?!!
Now for the other races, here's what I observed:
Attorney General:
There were no contests for both the Republicans and Democrats as both candidates were unopposed in the primary.
Auditor of Public Accounts:
Republicans:
Taking NOTHING away from John Kemper, Addia Wuchner lost the election for the simple, but TRUE, reason that Kentuckians viewed her name with suspicions, had difficulty pronouncing the same, and figured she must not be a "Kentuckian", whatever the fuck being a "Kentuckian" is!
Democrats:
Democrats had no primary, as their candidate was unopposed.
Secretary of State:
Republicans:
Luckily for Hilda Legg, and unlike Addia Wuchner (I can hear some voters saying: "she must not be from around here"!), she did not have a last name like Wuchner, so she got the benefit of the doubt from voters that she might be a "Kentuckian". Hilda Legg, therefore, only trailed Bill Johnson by 1000 votes (a recanvass is in progress, as I type).
Democrats:
Steve Beshear got politically "spanked" by Jerry Lundergan. You've heard the story, so let's move on.
Treasurer:
Republicans:
The Republican candidate had no primary opposition.
Democrats:
The Democratic incumbent faced token opposition who was annihilated in the election.
Commissioner for Agriculture:
Republicans:
James Comer predictably beat the other guy -- whatever his name is!
Democrats:
In a virtually illiterate state like Kentucky, if your name is Farmer and you are running for any office that has something to do with farming, then you win, almost automatically.
It does NOT matter, as it was in this election, that you are NOT a farmer, and never been on a farm.
Likewise, if you want to run for judge, make sure your name is Justice; and, if you want to run for Sheriff, it helps GREATLY if you share the same name with the office you are running for -- and the beat goes on, and on, and on.
Well, you get the picture.
This is one reason, I think James Comer has his job as the candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture cut out for him; he has to HAMMER into voters' heads that his opponent is NOT a farmer, for real, though some will not hear, and will instead vote for the Farmer.
My predictions for the General election? Here goes:
I predict that Republicans will pick up one office, keep one, lose one, and one is currently a toss up, but I predict it leans Republican, and can make it two that Republicans will end up picking up once the votes are counted.
(N/B: One of the offices mentioned above will, of course, be determined by how it is impacted by the Gatewood Galbrait/Dea Riley ticket, but I am willing to "go out on a limb" and stand on my predictions as stated)
That's it y'all. As Mel Blanc would say: That's all, folks!
See ya!!
