Kentucky Democrats Try To "Make Hay" Of Senate Television Set.
Democrats accuse David Williams of lying about $17,000 TV

The Kentucky Democratic Party on Friday accused Senate President David Williams of lying about the television he had installed as part of a renovation of his Capitol Annex office in 2006.
The Democrats have tried to make hay of the fact that Williams spent more than $17,000 of tax payer money on the 60-inch plasma TV as Williams challenges Gov. Steve Beshear’s reelection effort.
At the time, Williams and legislative officials defended the TV, saying he would use it in group meetings for teleconferencing and as a computer monitor for bill-drafting, Power Point presentations, drawing redistricting maps and other purposes.
The renovations were part of a $639,000 expansion and renovation for 11 Republican senators, including the five leaders and staff in the Capitol Annex. It included cherry veneer paneling in Williams’ office.
The television was removed from his office prior to the 2011 meeting of the General Assembly after a similar monitor that was used to display Senate votes and agenda items malfunctioned.
When a reporter from WAVE television interviewed Williams at the opening of the Kentucky State Fair on Thursday, Williams played a bit of bait and switch, talking only about the television that is currently in his office — the one that replaced the $17,000 set after it was removed.
"One of the claims out there is that you spent alot of money, sort of refurbishing your office, buying a TV set," the reporter asked.
"Absoultely ridiculous claim," Williams responded. "The TV in my office was bought by us."
In a conference call yesterday, state Democratic Chairman Dan Logsdon accused Williams of lying to voters.
"Rarely do we see a candidate for major office look into a television office and lie to the people he hopes to represent," said Logsdon. "Sadly, that is what David Williams did yesterday."
My question is, "How dumb does David Williams think Kentuckians are?" said Logsdon, who accused Williams of using taxpayer money to turn his office into a "private palace."
"You can’t look Kentuckians in the eye and lie to them if you want to be governor," he said.
Logsdon would not answer how Williams’ statement differered from Beshear’s statements to reporters that he didn’t got to Fort Campbell with President Barack Obama to honor the Navy SEALs who killed Osama bin Laden because he couldn’t rearrange his schedule.
In fact, Beshear had not been invited to the event.
