What You Should Know About The Debt Limit "Compromise" From Congressman Geoff Davis.
Friends,
After months of intense debate, the House and Senate passed The Budget Control Act of 2011. Though the final bill takes a number of positive steps toward addressing our nation’s fiscal woes and averting a default, I was unable to vote in favor of its passage.
The biggest reason this bill did not have my support was because the requirement to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment was stripped from the original House bill. This was a vital component to the legislation that passed last week and it is unfortunate that Senate Democrats fought against its inclusion. I have been an active supporter of a Balanced Budget Amendment since I was first elected to Congress and I firmly believe it would help put our nation on the path to fiscal responsibility.
There is still much work to be done to ensure that our nation’s finances are in order for our children and grandchildren. I assure you that I will continue to be vigilant in the fight for a sustainable future. Thank you for joining me.
Sincerely,
Geoff Davis
