FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement from House Republican Leader Jeff Hoover regarding possible Special Session dealing with redistricting
FRANKFORT, Ky. (November 16, 2011) – House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover today called on Governor Beshear to reject Speaker Stumbo’s suggestion for a Special Session next month related to redistricting. Below are excerpts from Rep. Hoover’s letter to the Governor, which was also sent to Speaker Stumbo, Senate President Williams, and Senate Minority Leader R.J. Palmer, which is attached to this release:
“According to recent testimony from the Governor’s Budget Director, our Commonwealth is facing a potential $337 million hole in our next budget. It is simply wrong for us to spend taxpayers’ money at an approximate cost of $60,000 a day on a Special Session to deal with redistricting.
We should concern ourselves with redistricting in the 2012 session, and not waste time and taxpayer money on an unneeded and unnecessary Special Session.”
