Huff pleads guilty in sex case
By JUSTIN STORY jstory@bgdailynews.com  May 19, 2017  1

A Bowling Green man involved in an investigation into sex acts involving a runaway teenage girl pleaded guilty Friday to lesser charges.

Randy Ray Huff, owner of Southside Auto Sales, pleaded guilty in Warren Circuit Court to tampering with physical evidence, a felony, and was placed on probation for five years.

Huff, 51, accepted a plea agreement that dismissed two counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and two counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor.

Huff’s attorney, Alan Simpson, said the tampering charge came about when someone working for Huff destroyed a cellphone that police believed contained evidence in a case that centered on allegations that the teen was a human trafficking victim.

“The commonwealth believes it’s in the best interest of the minor victim to resolve this case with a felony conviction and five years of supervised probation,” Warren County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Kim Geoghegan said.

Huff was indicted two years ago following a Bowling Green Police Department investigation that began in June 2015, when the teenage runaway was found in a Bowling Green apartment with Daryl K. Williams.

Police arrested Williams, 45, after the teen told police she had been staying with him off and on and that he did not know he was a runaway, according to court records.

The teen also told police that Williams paid her to have sex with him and had been supplying her with drugs, records show.

Williams has pleaded not guilty to six counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and one count each of custodial interference and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His case is pending in Warren Circuit Court.

The investigation also led to the arrest of Anthony L. Johnson, 42, who was accused of taking the teenager to locations to provide sexual activities for money.

Johnson pleaded guilty to seven counts of second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and is serving a five-year prison sentence.

According to Johnson’s arrest citation, some of the incidents took place at Southside Auto Sales, and police seized video from that location showing Johnson driving the juvenile there on multiple occasions.

City police obtained a search warrant in June 2015 to seize any form of digital storage from the auto dealership. When police talked to Huff about the allegations, Huff said he wanted to talk to an attorney, records show.

“I think it’s a fair resolution,” Simpson said after Friday’s hearing. “Randy has got a family to raise and a business to run and we thought this agreement was in everybody’s best interest.”
