A state is nothing more than a reflection of its citizens: Why kentucky's politics will always remain CORRUPT.

C-J reporter, Tom Loftus, has an excellent article concerning the topic of (Unlikely donors give to campaigns), which is an eye opener to the continuing corruption rampart in Kentucky politics.

It seems that we can pass ALL the laws we want dealing with elections, and all those laws do is ONLY tax those hell-bent on breaking them with devising even more ingenious ways to do so.

Even those who "[do NOT] know the difference between a Democrat and a Republican" are in on the gig.

There is a slight bright spot in all of this, though, as one candidate's campaign manager, Jim Cauley of Steve Beshear's campaign, has said "the circumstances were questionable enough that the campaign would immediately refund the contribution."

I say good for him, and SAD for the others who HAVEN'T taken a similar stand.

But maybe the person who gets it right is our former President Ronald Reagan, who once said: "A state is nothing more than a reflection of its citizens: The more decent the citizens, the more decent the state."

Or maybe, it was our Founding Father, Samuel Adams, who got it right BETTER when he concluded: "No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders."

((Editor's Note for reference -- Samuel Adams (letter to James Warren, 4 November 1775; Reference: Our Sacred Honor, Bennett (261).)

And I suppose the story helps conclusively establish that a VAST majority of Kentuckians, ask for, and/or deserve, the kind of politics -- and politicians -- that they get.

Are there ANY doubts?

Update: Audits are ordered. Good. What is also interesting is this statement from Deputy Attorney General Pierce Whites, who confirmed that the office is awaiting any referrals from registry auditors and is "ready to supply any investigative or prosecutorial resources that may be required."
