What are they REALLY saying?: Campaign finance.
This is the continuing series on the H-L gubernatorial debates:
Beshear's Question:
You favor disclosure of campaign finances, yet refuse to name donors to your criminal defense fund. You promised if I disclosed my 2006 tax return you would disclose your donor list. My return is public. Why are you still hiding the identity of donors and what they got in return?
Fletcher's Answer:
I have repeatedly answered this question. You really do have trouble recalling things don't you? I guess there are many things your Frankfort Insider cronies would rather not remember. Like Judge Graham sealing the ethics report on your firm regarding your Kentucky Central case, coincidentally in time for your Senate candidacy. It cost your firm just $100,000 to keep that report confidential for 12 years so you could make $21 million. Graham is also the judge who sealed state legislators’ sex files and personally interviewed and selected the jurors for the merit investigation, and now he’s working on your campaign.
Fletcher's Question:
Will you answer the original question regarding your support for taxpayer-financed campaigns, or has your merit investigation campaign team of Doerting, Glass and Graham come up with other falsehoods to throw out to avoid discussing your out-of-touch policies and your role in covering up your unethical activity?
Beshear's Answer:
Unethical activity? 29 indictments, 85 criminal counts, 5th amendment, 1 blanket pardon. This is the unethical activity that Ernie Fletcher has perpetrated. This is the unethical behavior that won't happen under a Beshear administration. It is time for a change.
My view? John Stamper continues to do a good job with his "fact check" so check it out.
