Governor Steve Beshear announces Senior Advisor: Thomas L. Preston.

Beshear Announces Senior Advisor Position

FRANKFORT, KY (November 12, 2007) - Governor-elect Steve Beshear today announced that Thomas L. Preston, veteran businessman with considerable political and public affairs experience, is named Senior Advisor to the Governor.
Preston, a close friend and confidant for more than three decades will also serve as liaison between the governor and various state agencies in the event of emergencies
and disasters. In addition, Preston will be responsible for initiatives designed to achieve stronger relationships and synergies between the public and private sectors on matters affecting the Commonwealth's future progress.
"I called upon Tom for advice many times during my campaign and am pleased he is taking on this new role," said Beshear. "He will report directly to me."

A former owner of community newspapers and other commercial ventures, Preston, age 73, founded the Preston Group, Inc. in 1968, remaining as Board Chairman until 1997. In 1996, he created Preston Global for specialization in severe business and economic crisis prevention and response including terrorism and workplace violence.
Taking a leave of absence from his businesses in 1971, Preston was a top assistant to Governor Wendell Ford, as well as Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Public Information. He spent a year in Washington, D.C. when Ford became U.S. Senator.
Preston is a past member of the Kentucky Council on Public Higher Education, the Kentucky Emergency Response Commission and the Kentucky Travel and Tourism Advisory Council.

He has been an adjunct professor and visiting lecturer at three universities and is the first Kentuckian elected to the Public Relations Society of America's College of Fellows. A former armored officer, he twice served on active duty.
Preston and his wife have one son, Matt, a special agent with the United States Secret Service, and three grandchildren.

The Governor will also announce his Inauguration Committee, tomorrow, at 3 PM, at the
Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort, Ballroom 1.
