Shout Out for Fletcher on Metabolic Testing

We haven't heard much about this, but
Blue Grass, Red State
is reporting that 220 kids are alive today who might not have survived infancy were it not for one of the Guv's initiatives:

Metabolic testing has been performed on every new birth for a while now. Four years ago 4 different tests were performed on the children, even though 29 tests were available to be performed in order to catch health problems that would likely prove deadly if not detected early.

Ernie Fletcher found 1.5 million dollars in the budget to make these 29 tests available for new babies. With 220 children this year alone, health issues were detected and treated to prevent issues such as SIDS from taking the life of a family's child.

1.5 million dollars a year is not a lot of money for a state government. But Ernie Fletcher took the initiative and got this money dedicated to this purpose of saving the youngest Kentuckians from senseless death due to treatable health problems. The lives of these 220 kids are the work of God, but the care that went into getting them treatment so that they may live out a full life with a family is the work of Ernie Fletcher.
