Governor-Elect Beshear Announces Inaugural Chairs
FRANKFORT, KY (November 13, 2007) - Governor-elect Steve Beshear today announced his Inaugural Committee with Michael Cooper serving as Executive Director, and Carol and Tracy Farmer and Wade and Alice Houston serving as Co-Chairs. He also announced Lindy Karns as Budget Director for the Inaugural Committee.
• Michael Cooper of Lexington served in the Kentucky Tourism Cabinet's Department of Parks and Department of Tourism from 1983 to 2004. An experienced event planner, Cooper assisted with the inaugurations of Governors Martha Layne Collins, Wallace Wilkinson, Brereton Jones, Paul Patton and Ernie Fletcher. In this role, he also planned other high-profile events, including many Governor's Kentucky Derby festivities, the Kentucky Bicentennial and the 2001 Southern Governor's Association Convention. Most recently, Cooper coordinated the Kentucky Democratic Tour to Victory rallies and bus tour, as well as the "Let's Work Together" victory night celebration. Cooper is a graduate of Georgetown College.
• Tracy and Carol Farmer reside near Midway, Kentucky. Tracy is a former state Democratic Party Chairman and Secretary of Public Protection and established the Tracy Farmer Center for the Environment at the University of Kentucky. Farmer is a thoroughbred horse owner and breeder, has investments in automotive, banking, and real estate and is Chairman of the Board of the American Founders Bank. Carol is a member of the Executive Development Council of the Kentucky Children's Hospital and is on the Board of the National Committee for the Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
• Wade and Alice Houston live in Louisville. Wade is the former head basketball coach for the University of Tennessee Volunteers and is serving as Executive Vice President of Houston Johnson, Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky. Alice is President and CEO of Houston-Johnson, Inc. a Louisville based logistics, distribution, material management and order fulfillment company.
• Lindy Karns of Lexington served as treasurer of the Beshear/Mongiardo campaign. Since 1981, Karns has worked at Arthur Young (now Ernst and Young), Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche) and in 1989 was a founding partner of Dulworth, Breeding and Karns, LLP of Lexington. She currently serves as Treasurer of United Way of the Bluegrass, is a member of the Kentucky Society of of CPA's Tax Committee and the Salvation Army Board of Directors. Karns has taught tax and accounting classes at the University of Kentucky, University of South Carolina and Eastern Kentucky University.
