American Needs a Safety Trampoline, Not a Safety Net
Interesting thought from John Robb, author of Brave New War: The Next Stage of Terrorism and the End of Globalization: "What I want from the government is a trampoline that makes it easier for people to jump between jobs and/or start a company."
The challenge here is that a trampoline presumes the essential legitimacy of the marketplace while acknowledging a role for the state in helping surmount its difficulties. In other words, it makes just enough sense to be hated by both dominant political orthodoxies.
